Independent reading is a staple in many of our secondary English classrooms, but what if it could do more than build reading stamina and a love of books? What if we could also use this time dedicated to reading to help students build executive functioning skills that will help them sustain their work as readers, writers, and thinkers across the school day and across the curriculum?
